Conferences

The AnchorSTEM Scholars have the opportunity to attend conferences where they can represent the program, share their research, and network with professionals in their field. These experiences help them develop essential competencies such as public speaking, presenting their work effectively, and building professional relationships.

S-STEM Scholars Conference 2023

Hosted in Washington, D.C., scholars were given the opportunity to partake in informative plenary sessions and professional development workshops. They received guidance on topics such as internships, summer research programs, graduate school preparation, resume building, and career planning. Scholars participated in targeted activities with fellow scholars in similar STEM disciplines, education levels, and regions. The conference also provided a space for scholars to connect with representatives from various industry sectors at a career fair.

2024 S-STEM Scholars & PI Meeting

Hosted in Chicago, Illinois, scholars attended the nationwide convening of S-STEM scholars, Pls, and Co-Pls from active S-STEM Awards. They built connections throughout the S-STEM network and connected with potential employers and graduate degree programs at the career and education fair. Scholars were also engaged in professional and career development activities and presented their work from an array of STEM disciplines.

Fall Colloquium USD 2024 Presentations

Scholars presented their research completed during the summer through elevator pitches, oral presentations, and poster presentations at the Fall Colloquium.

STEAM Conference 2024

Scholars presented their workshop “ Enjoying Nature in the Dark” at the 2024 STEAM Conference. Inspired by their walk at the Tijuana River Estuary guided by Ronald Peterson, who is visually impaired, scholars learned how to use their other senses to make observations. Their walk taught them the value of a multisensory approach to STEM and scholars wanted to share this finding with others. Scholars created a similar experience where they promoted environmental education and participants could explore their sensory awareness.
