Who we are

Engaging with Community for Undergraduate Student Success.

about

Our
Goal

The overall goal of AnchorSTEM is to increase STEM degree completion and the success of Rising Stars.

The project is centered on a democratic, mutually-beneficial, and equitable collaboration between USD and community partners. We aim to benefit the students, the community and the university. We idealize forming an advanced understanding of how this community-based approach, including meaningful community engagement, affects the students’ persistence and success in STEM.

Why?

Student recruitment, retention, advancement, and success in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is a national priority, as it is imperative to achieve the richness in talent and creativity that can only result from a diverse and inclusive workforce.

With the use of scholarships, a comprehensive strategy of academic, personal, and professional support and development initiatives, and opportunities for community engagement, AnchorSTEM will enhance efforts to increase the number of low income academically talented students with financial need who graduate with a STEM major and successfully transition to pursue a STEM graduate degree or career.
